October 2013
The 29th IAMSLIC Conference was held in Dana Beach, Florida, USA between 20-24 October 2013. The Conference was attended by more than 60 participants and covered a number of topics that are of relevance to marine librarians. The full programme descitpion of the Conference is available from http://www.iamslic.org/conf2013/. As is traditional in IAMSLIC this Conference was the outgoing event for the 2012-2013 IAMSLIC President Maria Kalentsits and the inauguration event of the 2013-2014 IAMSLIC President, Sally Taylor.
The theme of the Conference was "Visualizing a Bright Future" to examine the transformation of libraries and the new opportunities for information professionals. The presentations covered topics such as "embedded librarianship", "outreach", "library consolidations" as well as OceanTeacher, GIS and data, etc.
On 21 October an ad hoc Session of the GE-MIM was held which dealt mainly with the need to renew the MoU between IAMSLIC and IOC/IODE. The meeting agreed on a draft revision of the MoU which was then submitted to the IAMSLIC Executive Board for consideration. It is expected that the MoU will be signed by IAMSLIC and IOC before the end of 2013.
Under the ongoing cooperation between IAMSLIC and IOC/IODE, IODE agreed to continue the hosting of the IAMSLIC Aquatic Commons e-repository at the IOC Project Office for IODE in Oostende, Belgium. In addition IODE agreed to increase technical support from 12 to 19 days/year. IAMSLIC expressed its thanks to IODE for the ongoing hosting and the increase of support.
March 2013
At the 22nd Session of the IODE Committee (March 2013) it was agreed to establish, with IAMSLIC, a Joint IAMSLIC/IODE Group of Experts on Marine Information Management (IAMSLIC/IODE GE-MIM) was established through Recommendation IODE-XX.1 (2013) (More here). This was considered as a logical step for both IOC and IAMSLIC in view of the similar interests of IAMSLIC and those of the IODE's marine information management activities. The new Group is composed of an equal number of members identified by IAMSLIC and IOC/IODE. See the membership here
2011
IOC and the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC) established a Memorandum of Agreement on General Cooperation on 30 August 2011. Scope of cooperation
Under this agreement, it is hereby agreed that:
