04-Nov-09: JCOMM-III opens in Marrakech, Morocco

jcomm3_room_400.jpgToday the Third Session of the Joint WMO-IOC Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM) was opened in Marrakech, Morocco. The Session is attended by over 100 delegates from more than 40 WMO Members and IOC Member States. The Session is expected to review progress made since the Second Session, which took place 4 years ago in Canada, consider the election of Co-Presidents, Chairs of the Programme Areas (including the Data Management Programme Area) and members of the Expert Teams (including the Expert Team on Data Management Practices), as well as to adopt a work plan for the next 4 years.

Matters related to IODE will be discussed in agenda item 7 (Information systems and services (data management)), 9 (Education and Training, technology transfer and implementation support) and 10.2 (WIGOS PIlot Project for JCOMM). These agenda items will be discussed on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November. We will publish more information on the outcome of the discussions as soon as possible.
