At an informal presentation event, on November 7, the class members of
the Nippon Foundation/POGO Centre of Excellence in Marine Observations
for 2009-2010 received their certificates for completing the IODE Basic
Data Management training course. Instructor Murray Brown travelled to
the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS, formerly known as the
Bermuda Biological Station) to teach the class, which is usually taught
in Ostend. The ten scholars for 2009-2010 were selected after an
international competition, held every year for positions in a 10-month
intensive educational program at BIOS. During their stay, the students
attend lectures by visiting scientists, and participate in cruises.
