Projects.IODE project management tool

On 11 February 2008 the IOC Project Office for IODE has launched a new service for the marine community: the Projects.IODE project management tool.

Projects.IODE allows you to set up project management web sites that enable you to:

  1. send messages to members of the group (and maintain an archive of the messages);
  2. manage tasks and task lists related to a project;
  3. manage milestones ( with associated deadline date; also allows automatic reminder emails);
  4. upload files as well as versions of files;
  5. easily group and retrieve objects related to a topic by assgning “tags” (keywords) for each object;
  6. full-text search.

The user management is linked to OceanExpert which enables users to log on with their OceanExpert login.

This service is quite similar to some commercial web-based services but the difference is that we can offer this service free of charge.

The URL of the service is http://projects.iode.org

Two detailed manuals for the tool are now also available:

For further information and setting up of a site please contact Peter Pissierssens on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

What you need to do in preparation:

  • make sure that all experts you want to include in your project website are entered in OceanExpert (http://www.oceanexpert.org ) (preferably they should enter themselves);
  • send the following information to Peter Pissierssens:
    • your own name and what role you have in the project (you should preferably be the principal investigator (PI) or otherwise be authorized to administer the web site;
    • full names of the experts and countries you wish to add to your project website;
    • the chosen name of the project;
    • a description of the project web site: what is the objective.

On the basis of the provided information we will then set up the site and give permissions to all declared members/users.
