Estonia designated Prof. Urmas Lips as IODE National Coordinator for data management. Prof. Lips is Leading Researcher at the Marine Systems Institute in Tallinn. You can find more information on Prof. Lips HERE .

On 14 July 2010 the IOC project Office for IODE received a visit of over 100 Deputy Permanent Representatives (COREPER-I) which framed within the Chairing by Belgium of the Council of the European Union (http://www.eutrio.be/belgian-presidency-council-european-union ). During their brief visit we were able to introduce the wide range of activities implemented by the IOC of UNESCO thanks to posters provided by most IOC programmes. Find out more about COREPER here

On July 19th, 2010, President Barak Obama signed an Executive
establishing the National Ocean Council. The Executive Order
established for the first time a comprehensive, integrated National
Policy for the stewardship of the ocean, USA coasts,and Great Lakes,
which sets the USA on a path toward comprehensive planning forthe

The United Nations agencies of FAO and UNESCO-IOC/IODE have
announced a joint initiative to provide a customized version of DSpace using standards and controlled vocabularies
in oceanography, marine science, food, agriculture, development,
fisheries, forestry, natural resources and related sciences.
Summer has come to the northern hemisphere which is the time when the staff of the IOC Project Office for IODE will be taking some leave. The State of Eritrea designated Mr Sammy Mahmud (Managing Director, Marine Resources Division, Ministry of Marine Resources) based in Massawa, as IODE National Coordinator for oceanographic data management. Mr Salih Hassan as been designated as IODE National Coordinator for Marine Information (Library) Management. More info on Mr Mahmud is available here.
