odatisSix french partners (CNES, CNRS, Ifremer, IRD, SHOM and Universités Marines) are collaborating on a new website for getting access to ocean data : http://www.odatis-ocean.fr. Search for data on http://www.odatis-ocean.fr/en/acces-aux-donnees/ . The OceanTeacher Global Academy closed its 2017 training calendar last week with 2 training courses (one in Belgium and another one in Malaysia). The week before another 2 training courses also took place (in Colombia and Belgium). The OTGA course calendar for 2018 is being finalised and the topics covered will be expanded. The OTGA calendar for 2018 should include no less than 25 courses and will be published soon on the IOC (http://www.ioc-unesco.org, see Meetings calendar) and IOC Capacity Development (www.ioc-cd.org) websites.

obistraining2017During five days (27 Nov - 1 Dec 2017), 22 OBIS node data managers from 17 countries gathered at the IOC Project Office for IODE, which hosts the OBIS secretariat, to get training in the application of ratified Darwin Core terms, using the new OBIS-ENV-DATA standard, which combines sampling events and species occurrences with abiotic/biotic measurements and sampling facts, as well as training in using the new OBIS data access and QC tools (based on OBIS R packages and WoRMS/LifeWatch tools). All the training course material (in English) is publicly available via the OBIS Nodes Training Course (2017) on the OceanTeacher e-learning platform.

mg54_2_thumbThe Recommendation to Adopt ISO 8601 as the standard for the representation of dates and times in Oceanographic Data Exchange has now
been published. The representation of date and time is an important element for the management and exchange of oceanographic data. A
standardized, unambiguous way of representing date and time is essential to ensure exchanged data is correctly interpreted. A standard notation
helps to avoid confusion in international data exchange caused by different national formats. The Standard can be downloaded through http://www.iode.org/mg54_2
