http://gallery.iode.org . IODE is contributing to the commemmoration of 50 years of IOC History by launching the "IODE Gallery". The IODE Gallery contains hundreds of photographs (474 on 14-Feb-2010) demonstrating the hundreds of experts who, on a volunteer basis - which is the foundation of most of IOC's activities- , have contributed five decades of time and effort to building the IODE global network of oceanographic data and information centres. You have pictures? Contact Peter Pissierssens (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
The gallery has been populated with photographs received from Iouri Oliounine (who managed the programme for two decades), Peter Pissierssens, Bob Gelfeld, and the US-NODC. However we hope that many NODCs and Marine Libraries will send us more photographs, not only of people gathering at meetings but also pictures of data centres or marine libraries in "days long gone by" so the new generation of data and information managers can see how things were done before in the past (remember the days of punch cards, "mini" computers, tape drives, etc). How were data stored at sea?
So please send us your photos. Note that we tried to tag most photographs by adding names of people shown on the photos. You can search the gallery by name.
The IODE gallery is managed by Annelies Groen at the IOC project Office for IODE in Oostende, Belgium
Enjoy!
