The Recommendation to Adopt ISO 8601 as the standard for the representation of dates and times in Oceanographic Data Exchange has now
been published. The representation of date and time is an important element for the management and exchange of oceanographic data. A
standardized, unambiguous way of representing date and time is essential to ensure exchanged data is correctly interpreted. A standard notation
helps to avoid confusion in international data exchange caused by different national formats. The Standard can be downloaded through
